Week 35, 2015 (Aug 24 - Aug 30)

August:

- Dragon Quest VIII was indeed the best selling game of the month despite being available for 4 days, its rather difficult that it'll reach a million but its a very good result for the game considering the mobile port.

-Animal Crossing, Yokai Watch Busters, Splatoon and Minecraft continue to perform well, the latter mostly, as they've been on the top 15 for every month since release and should continue to do so throughout the year.

-Splatoon has semented itself as the best selling console game of the year, and that's very, VERY unlikely to change, more impressive is even that the game will likely outsell some of the other big releases of the year such as Metal Gear Solid V and Persona 5, and that's combining both versions of said games, a year a go that was unthinkable, go squids.

-For three months now the 3DS has sold considerably more software than everything else combined, in fact the software sales of the handheld now ammounts at more than 50% of the entire software sold for the year, WiiU has also moved more software than the PS4 for five months running, not precisely a huge margin in favor of the former but impressive nonetheless, it won't surpass it though, not with the big September that's awaiting the PS4, in fact, in September PS4 might surpass PS3 in software sales.

-The New 3DS LL is on top of the software charts once again, that's 3 months, that still should stop next month though, the system did achieve 25% marketshare, even if it was short lived.

What to expect next month?

There are 2 big releases happening in September, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (XB1+PS3+PS4) and Super Mario Maker (NWU), PS4 should be back on top the hardware charts as TTP should give the system a good boost, in both hardware and software, as I said before, it might surpass the PS3 in YTD software sales, TPP on PS4 should also become the first PS4 to game to be the best selling game of the month, the closest games to get there were Bloodborne earlier this year and Knack over a year ago.

Super Mario Maker should also go good for WiiU, its bundled (a rather expensive bundle, but a bundle nonetheless) and combined with the popularity of Splatoon it should be a good month for the system, Mario shouldn't be a very frontloaded title so it might not do that well when it originally releases, we'll have to wait and see, also note the game isn't guaranteed to sell well.

3DS and Vita aren't getting that big releases, nothing to really drive hardware, the systems should ride September just fine.
