spemanig said: You can't "fix" Other M and Fusion and Zero Mission. They are cannot and the garbage and plot inconsistancies they introduced in the story are canon. They can't be ignored or fixed. That's the thing about storytelling. Everything is permanent. You can't "no Adam" because he's indegral to Metroid now. You can't "no NPCs" because people like the GFT and the hunters are integral to the canon of Metroid now. A reboot is desperately needed. |
You can ignore all the bad stuff that happend in Other M. Just because that game did stupid crap. The crap doesn't need to be done again. It's really the way the story was told that caused it. Adam or the rest of the cast aren't the inherent problem. The script was. Fix that. And write the characters as real thinking people. You're done. Having the backstory of Samus, when young, wasn't the issuse. The script, the script, and again, the words the actress spit out were.
Take The Ferengi from Star Trek: TNG. Season 1 fully intended for them to be the next major bad guy in the universe. That was screwed up, with how the actors potrayed them. From that point on. The future series basically ignored all evil aspects of them. And went in the more comedic and asshole direction. Does it conflict with TNG S1? Yes. Does it break the universe, no. Even with Bok taking revenge on Picard. They corrected their mistake on the fly. Smithers, from The Simspons, was black, the first time we saw him. It's now an error. But doesn't destroy the characters importance, or love.
The next time Samus interacts with anyone/anything from Other M. You just don't make anyone retarded. Samus doesn't obey BS orders. Anyone could see a mile away. Which causes deaths *Cough* *plot contrived drama*. She acts as she's suppose to. Saves the lives. And Adam doesn't issue retarded orders, in the first place. You can argue, Other M was the game that broke the universe. By not following the established backstory of Samus. That info exsists. But the team wanted to tell a force emotional story.
You can do an emotional story. Perfect example is the insperation of Metroid. Alien. What happend in Aliens. Was ripply's character compromised by Newte? She is basically the Metroid. Was Ripply's personality altered from what we saw/perceived from the first film? No. They kept her true to how they established her. But at the same time. She showed caring towards a child. To other people. Does any of the officers ever give her moronic orders. Which in return gets them killed, no. Does she act out on her own, YES. When it's needed. That's proper and compelling story telling. Not what Other M tried to tell us. Forced after forced plot point to move the story forward.
Weather Samus' backstory was told on screen or in text. It does exsist. It exsists on our minds. Granted. That can cause people to see Samus in slightly different ways. No one's image of her will match. But her basic personaility is what is consistant, in peoples mind. That is all fans really ask from the character. You can add new aspects to her. As long as the story and personality aren't violated. To use Alien again. Other M is basically Alien 3 towards the franchise. There are aspects of the movie that are interesting/good. But the rest goes in places that were stupid and break characters. Which caused the hole in the franchise.
