At that point, the NFL decided to limit the locations for signal taping and removed the sidelines. Several teams continued to do so, the NFL sent out a memo saying the next team to do so would be punished harshly, the Patriots decided to ignore it and got punished harshly. This isn't to say that all teams cheat, but rather that the illegal actions that the Patriots partook in were legal during all three Super Bowl runs. |
And the Jets got busted for it the following year, and got nothing.
