Imo it went on for too long without any real gameplay. I do realize mgs always has had huge cutscenes, but these days other game devs do such a great job of keeping you in control while a 'cutscene' is happening. Furthermore some of moments in the intro was cringe worthy bad (the sedative parts). Furthermore, just like the rest of the game you Cann tell how expensive Kiefer Sutherland was because of the lack of dialogue. It is basically a silent protagonist even in cutscenes.

I'm gonna have to go with the last of us intro. It trumps it in every way. Fitting length, believable dialogue, seamless transitions to and from gameplay, thrilling but realistic setpieces. (unlike that whale from mgs5). Relatable characters, and above all superb writing which gives you an emotional attachment within 20 minutes. Furthermore TLOU deserves an extra bone for being grounded in reality as 'fantasy' has the ability to take liberties with reality to make it function In a game, whereas a reality grounded in reality is technically limited when it comes to storytelling and setpieces.
