Nintendo's marketing department been killing it lately with great commercials. Too bad they were sitting on their asses back in 2012 & 2013.

I think the 2012 and 2013 blunders are the result of forgeting something very important about their history.  What they remembered from the 7th gen was that people like cool new tech.  Which *is* still true.  But what they forgot was that the 7th gen was also about Nintendo's return to boldness and confidence.  They went into the Wii with Legend of Zelda:  Twilight Princess, Wii Sports, Super Mario Galaxy, and Metroid Prime 3 Corruption in the first year plus new third party IP exclusives.  And they backed it up with the most aggressive Nintendo marketing campaign since the launch of the N64 and it's 1996 campaign.  They grossly underestimated the importance of that element in the Wii's success.  People often talk about the soccer moms buying the Wii post 2009  but they often forget the initial rush of gamers who were hyped because Nintendo combined cool tech with good games and even better marketing.  Nintendo forgot that as well.  Now I think they're starting to remember.
