Why do you / others get hyped for game sequels in a game series you've never played before?

If it looks interesting enough and sounds like a good jumping on point, then sure. As someone else mentioned, I barely got more than 5 minutes into Metal Gear on NES, but was all over Metal Gear Solid two generations later.
