Last year I had played some of the old tombraider games after playing the reboot.

I'd always had a negative opinion of the series after playing a little of tomb raider 1 when it first came out on pc and thinking the controls were terrible (which they were). I did have a few brief goes on later tombraider games but nothing to win me over.

In the past I've dismissed the series (even on this forum) stating that although it's important as an early example of third person 3d gaming they aren't good games. I now realise they are good games.

It's an example of how an early bad experience of a franchise can a lasting impact on your view if it. They offer the kind of exploration and puzzles you don't often get these days.

Welcome to the fold. ;)

As someone who played TR ever since they first released, I see lot of newer gamers dissing them cause of controls, which is a pitty given how great exploration, platforming and puzzles they offer. I'm curently replaying TR1 for who knows what time (on tablet no less) and yes, controls are bit akward for contemporary standards, but once you readjust yourself, it's as enjoyable and great game as it always was.

I would even go as far as to say first TR was as important for todays gaming industry as SM64 (and they both released few months apart).

My first expiriance of TR was before Mario 64 came out and I didn't like the contols even at the time. This is dispite playing having played a number of early 3d games on pc where I tolerated bad controls.
I think the first game was deserving of some crit. The newer version of TR1 with fixed controls is much better.

Its exploration and puzzles weren't as special back then as well and I probably took it for granted at the time. That kind of challaging gamplay is unfortunatly not as common in current games.
