...having a dual analog set up doesn't equate to becoming a mediocre FPS. Bioshock's already been mentioned quite a bit on this thread, but that game, at the very least, is an example of how you can still have a game focused around exploration while still keeping that control scheme.
Personally I think it's time to move on from the Prime format as well, but control scheme is hardly the reason.

Bioshock and Metroid are two different things. I fail to see why people ask for the worst possible control set-up known to FPS.
People barely use dual analog in Splatoon for a reason.

They're two different things, certainly, but the point is having a dual analog system doesn't automatically make a game a standard mediocre FPS, and exploration style games can be pulled off with dual analogs.
I'd personally prefer having alternate control schemes on the table, but I'd argue it's going too far to just completely throw it out.
