As has been shown over multiple releases Halo isn't so much a system seller as a game that can move units of software, but the install base is already on the platform.

I doubt Halo 5 will buck the trend and move even a quarter of a million XB1's.
I don't get where this belief that Halo is a system seller comes from, the game sells because the install base is already on the platform, if that's the case the it sells to existing XBox owners, but not because the game is coming to the platform.

I don't get where this belief comes from that a game can only be a system seller if the system sales dramatically increase in the week of the game release. A good game is also a reason to finally buy a new system in the following week... and the week after that... and even months later.

But if the whole Halo install base is already on the Xbox One, that's the best what can happen to Microsoft... over ten million Halo 5 sales confirmed.  ;)

The point is that the effect on hardware isn't there, Halo isn't going to start moving a tonne of hardware sales, that's the point.

XB1 is going to sell just like it already has been, that's the point, Halo 5 isn't going to boost things much higher. If the game moved several hundred more units of hardware then that would be the ideal situation, like Destiny did for PS4 last year, it isn't going to happen though, not for Halo 5 on XB1.

Of course a game can impact sales of hardware over the long term, but considering that Halo tends to have a pretty quick drop off that's probably not going to happen with Halo 5 either.
