Fidelity is not about wanting others and being wrong for that. Fidelity is being in a mutual agreed exclusive relationship and sticking with it and being honest and truthful. If you are in a non exclusive relationship then there is no concept of fidelity because there is no agreement as to the amount of partners you can have, or it can even exist like agreeing to use condom with everyone. What you probably meant with that was about polygamy and monogamy. And both have their place in society.
If we look into how most people react when cheated on or even think about it, you can see it is as primal as the desire to have sex with every single person they find attractive. If we are going to say that having multiple partners is natural, then also wanting only one exclusive is also natural. Love is also natural and it can be considered a fact that 99% of people will want that person only for themselves, or there wouldn't be so many crimes of passion. As I have said, there are various primal mechanisms also seen in apes regarding infidelity and the thought of it. Also building families is the best way to raise a child and have more chances of survival all around.
People talk a lot out of their asses when it comes to this subject. There is no best solution for monogamy or polygamy. It is whatever people want and all you have to do is find someone else that agrees with you. If someone breaks trust then how you deal with it will differenciate between people but I can only see crimes of passion as completely wrong. If you are extremely upset, or don't care and not even want to know if your spouse cheats on you, then that is your choice, just don't complain later.
And people who think about cheating, Jesus, just jerk off first and then see if you want it still.
