I just want good characters, and yes it is nice when that character is female as a bonus for me. My favorite female character of last generation was Commander Shepard from Mass Effect because it was a great role to play and I had agency over how my sex played a role.
I will say I take no issue with women having sex appeal, same with men. I like my Nathan Drake so others can have Lara Croft, it is fine. I like both game series by the way. If a game gets too far out and makes me uncomfortable I can elect to just not buy it. The challenge in games is cyclical. Women don't play as much so games cater to men which makes it intimidating at times for women. I have female friends who think nothing of playing on their phones, but suggest playing Smash or Halo or Diablo and get funny looks.
