They need a heavy bundle or a ton of bundles this holiday season to beat 2013. Super Mario Maker provides between 20k-55k and that will pretty much lead to the gap being closed. I personally see the bundle doing 30K+ with 40K being what I want to see. it shouldn't drop off automatically either and should help it create a fairly big gap between it and 2013 before 2013's big week. After that its all about the bundles nintendo will offer.

Mhm. Beating 2013 will be extremely difficult, but not totally impossible.

The Super Mario Maker bundle will boost sales, Star Fox will either keep the baseline steady or be a surprise hit, Animal Crossing could attract some potential buyers if they market it enough, and Genei Ibun Roku #FE will probably boost the system along the lines of Xenoblade Chronicles X, maybe more considering it has two well known brands attached to it, but it also depends on if there's a bundle or not.

What Nintendo really needs to do is make a "Best Value + Splatoon" bundle, where the console is like 6000 yen cheaper, Splatoon and maybe 1 other game is included (something that's really popular, like MK8 or Smash), and maybe an amiibo if they want. Then market it like crazy as a limited time offer and sales would go through the roof.
