That's the part I find odd. Other than the way it looks SM64 hasn't really aged at all. I played it for a bit a few weeks ago for the first time in years, and I was able to pick it right up and play it as if I'd never stopped. It was great, actually haha!

i actually agree that SM64 hasnt aged well and its not just the graphics


A few months ago I had two friends in town staying with me and we popped SM64 in... In two days we were sitting at nearly 110 stars and loved the heck out of it.

It's not everyone's cup of tea but a blanket statement like "it hasn't aged well" isn't fair. When you consider just how poorly most games of the fifth generation aged (perhaps worst of the 3-8 gens), be it the N64, Playstation or Saturn, SM64 has actually aged remarkably well.
