When it comes to Ashley Madison's responsibility, I would like to add that the website had a special service for $19 that promised to erase the accounts from existence off the website, but now people found that that wasn't the case, even if you paid for it:

When the massive data dump of Ashley Madison lust-hunters surfaced, it was found that while information was indeed removed when accounts were deleted, some details remained in the site's databases – and were splashed all over the web by miscreants.
