Yay, numbers! Even though they are more than a month old, this was the second most interesting week of the summer.
The hardware numbers are expected and good for the PS4. but I'm surprised to see Batman selling so much better on the PS4.

Why are you surprised?

PosGamePlatformYearGenrePublisherNorth AmericaEuropeJapanRest of WorldGlobal
1 Batman: Arkham City PS3 2011 Action Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment 2.60 1.82 0.11 0.77 5.30
2 Batman: Arkham City X360 2011 Action Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment 2.92 1.27 0.04 0.40 4.63
3 Batman: Arkham Asylum PS3 2009 Action Eidos Interactive 2.19 1.30 0.07 0.59 4.16
4 Batman: Arkham Asylum X360 2009 Action Eidos Interactive 2.14 0.95 0.02 0.30 3.41
5 Batman: Arkham Origins PS3 2013 Action Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment 0.99 0.76 0.04 0.38 2.18
6 Batman: Arkham Origins X360 2013 Action Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment 1.08 0.55 0.00 0.14 1.77

And this is with the global install base being in Xb one's favour, by a fairly decent margin in 2009 when the first game came out.

Now with PS4 approaching a 2:1 global install base lead a large difference in Batman sales should be expected. At week 2 Arkham City was at 2.5 million across PS360. At week 2 Arkham Knight is at 2.6 million. Sales basically the same, just proportionally weighted to PS4 because of the large discrepancy in install base worldwide. So this sales difference is actually completely expected if you think about it.

You should expect this sort of result during this generation for franchises that did better on PS3, esp while PS3 was behind. The proportional difference in sales this gen for such franchises will be much greater than the proportional difference in install base.

hmm, I didn't know Batman sold better on PS last gen. I guess it makes sense since action adventure games have usually done better on PS than Xbox.
