Wow, great movies mentioned in this thread! Many of my favorites have already been mentioned, so I'll try to toss out some that (I think) have been left out thus far.

Grizzly Man
An almost creepy kind of documentary about Timothy Treadwell, a bear enthusiast who spent his summers in Alaska and ended up eaten by a bear.

The Good Shepherd (the one about OSS/CIA)
I found this movie to be one of the best movies of recent years. The best quality is that it doesn't provide you with ready answers but instead challenges you to think.

The Adversary with Daniel Auteuil
This is probably the most depressing and grim movie I have ever seen. Daniel Auteuil is brilliant as the man whose life of lies starts to crumble, IMO his acting is what really makes this a favorite of mine. But be warned, if you're anything like me you'll be shocked and depressed after the movie, which is based on real life events.

Night of the Living Dead (the original)
You've probably seen this already, but for anybody who hasn't, this movie has one of the best endings in movie history.

Everything by Hayao Miyazaki
My personal favorites are Tonari no Totoro, Kurenai no buta and Mononoke-hime.

Amelie
A wonderful feel-good movie, it's just about impossible not to like Audrey Tautou in this :)

Ghost in the Shell
An anime movie that has the bling and a thought-provoking story, what more could you ask for?

Well, that's what I could think of now.
