- Edgar Mitchell, sixth man to walk the moon, Apollo 14 veteran

- he believes peacekeeping aliens visited our planet to prevent a nuclear war between Russia and the United States

- He says:

“My own experience talking to people has made it clear the ETs had been attempting to keep us from going to war and help create peace on Earth.”

- He appeals to accounts of other people, air force officers who claim UFOs were a regular sight during the Cold War

“They told me UFOs were frequently seen overhead and often disabled their missiles,”

“Other officers from bases on the Pacific coast told me their (test) missiles were frequently shot down by alien spacecraft.”

On the other hand, Nick Pope, former Ministry of Defense UFO researcher is a little more skeptical of Mitchell's comments. He says:

“Given that the Universe is around 14 billion years old, if we’re being visited, it’s unlikely we’re dealing with a civilisation just a few hundred years ahead of us, so stories of aliens managing to disrupt a few of our weapons tests are far-fetched,”

“Chances are they’d be millions of years ahead of us and could do anything they wanted to.”

What do you guys think? Is it possible that we have friendly, loving, paternal extraterrestrial beings hanging around in our planet watching us and preventing us from killing each other, or do you think that's just sci-fy material? The Day the Earth Stood Still material?

Do you believe in the possibility that intelligent life forms could exist in other planets?

Discuss.

1st bold. I believe it to be more likely than for aliens to have ill intent, which seems to be the theme for most Sci-fi movies.

2nd bold. Not a possibility, a certainty. Given there's potential for unintelligent and exotic life to exist elsewhere in out own solar system. the likelihood of intelligent life existing elsewhere in the galaxy is very high, and it is certain there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe.

@ undelined. I'm very skeptical and think it's not likely to be the answer to why certain things happened. More than likely when nuclear stuff failed it was because of human error.
