Why are so many gamers not into Japanese games yet are in to Anime? :<

Well then, let me ask you this.   Do you personally play games from American cartoons?  The Simpsons, Ducktales, Lion King, Aladdin, Rugrats, and others cuz I can't think of more.  Here are some new ones: Adventure time, Spider-man games, Ben 10, have you ever considered playing Fusion Fall, other again I can't think of. 

You play games for their mechanics and gameplay, not for their characters.  Mario has always had a great mechanics and gameplay has always been tight.  That's why he continues to relevant and games for Sonic are not.  Think of a good game, but set in an anime franchise.  Yeah, DBZ, and really that's it.  Naruto for second if you really want to count that series, never played them so I don't know.

A lot of these jrpgs are probably as good as mario
