First, this is an awesome thread. The title only has half the quote and it's pretty clear half the people responding didn't even glance at the actual content of the article, which is amazing considering how short it is.

As for the quote itself, “very few people actually play the single-player on these kinds of games,” I admit that I don't know myself, as I don't play many of those titles. Last FPS multi-player I got into was Killzone 3, which I bought for the single-player. I'd love to see his data for this. I'd guess that he's right for CoD and Battlefront, though. I know people who've never booted up the single-player campaign.
Personally, I have no real problem with his reasoning. It's not like I get outraged if someone makes a single-player game and leaves out multi-player, so I'd feel like a hypocrite for protesting this. Multi-player only games have as much a right to live as single-player only.
On the other hand, without single-player content, I'm probably not going to consider this game. That's just my personal preference.
