I remember feeling that way. When the Playstation first came out, I was all like, "pff, they can't hang with Nintendo." Then Final Fantasy 7 was announced for Playstation only and I was pissed off at both Square and Sony. I remember feeling resentful and bitter. Seems silly, looking back on it. Of course, when I saw that first FF7 commercial, I had no choice but to buy a Playstation, bitter or not, and the flood of games after made it my favorite console ever.

Just thinking that I could have missed that experience because of brand loyalty, it's kind of disquieting.

This...same story pretty much.

I remember i was a huge nintendo fanboy and thought playstation sucked. I was a kid and had the "my console is better then yours" additude. Was not until i stubled across suikoden 1 when my cousin made me watch him play. I feel in love with the rich characters and mature story. Something i never saw in a nintendo game. After that we had to get one and the flood of new exciting "OBSCURE" japanese games like FF7-9, Metal gear, Chrono cross, tekken and much more make the PS1 one of my fav consoles of all time!

Suikoden was one of the games that made me completely happy with my decision.  I bought it for FF7 but there was such a flood of games afterwards that I loved, especially RPGs and story-driven games like Silent Hill 2, that I could not have been more pleased with my defection.  With the SNES I had FF6, one of my favorite games of all time, but I really struggled finding more games like it on the system.  The PS1 satisfied that craving.
