Excuse me, but that is one of the most ignorant rationalizations I've ever heard in my life.  Because a criminal hasn't killed you, somehow police work is magically safer?  Because it hasn't happened to you, the police should assume that it can't happen at all?  What an absolutely silly argument.  It actually pisses me off for the sake of those who HAVE been been the victims of  assault.

I guess a taser is better than a gun, but this liberal use of weapons is just unacceptable to me and I don't understand why there is no outcry over this, instead I see lots of "should have known" and "had it comming" types of posts.
