If your going to argue graphics equal immersion you will have to explain one of the worst games of 1983, Dragons Lair. Graphics of the game blew everything away for the date but the game made no sense, the controls were nearly random with a series of actions to make your moves but these had little sense to them. Immersion seems hard to reach in my opinion when your most common response to the actions your character is taking is, "What the hell am I doing." I guess you could think of that as being lost in the game, as I sure felt that way in it, but it is not immersion as you absolutely have no feeling of being involved in the game, being connected to it, being part of it.
If your not sure please go find an arcade that has Dragons Lair or Space Ace and blow 20 bucks figuring out how immersing they are. Night.
