It's a remaster, a very good remaster. I don't think we can call this a remake.

Remaster = Using original assets and up grading them

Remake = Game made from the ground up and stays faithful to original (imagine MGS1 on current gen consoles with current gen graphics same story/missions/etc and overhauled gameplay)

Reboot = Complete new direction set within the franchise. Usually going back to the start with change of story and drastic change in gamepley.

GoW:U has been built from the ground up, and is very faithful to the original (bar some artistic changes), so i don't see why we wouldn't consider it a remake. It is worth noting though that being "faithful" isn't a firm requirement for something to be considered a remake in the first place. The literal definition is just "to make again or differently".

OT: I'm still not keen on the artistic changes. I know there are those that think very drab colours are some kind of inherent visual flaw, but i always quite liked how the original Gears looked. It did a lot to build the atmosphere. Still, they've obviously put a fair bit of effort into it, and i'm looking forward to giving it a try. Perhaps i'll feel differently about the art changes when i'm actually playing it.
