I truly don't understand the robotic monsters. Why would dinosaurs be robots?

Because Monster Hunter sells well and GG told that this is inspired by MH - their words: http://nichegamer.com/2015/06/guerrilla-games-horizon-zero-dawn-is-inspired-by-monster-hunter/

As for in-game explanation - yeah, I'm empty here, tbh, dinobots sound like incredibly silly idea to me, but so does a lot of other stuff in this game.

That's cool to know, it would be awesome if Horizon was able to be one of those rare Western games that can have a decent sized audience in Japan.

What's so silly about artificial machine life developing over 1000 years into something that looks like it fits in with nature?

It's logical evolution of various stages of tech into what we see.

The herd has a purpose, the Grazer are collecting a resource and the other machines support that and while there are big machines that standout from nature, they're just a part of every day life a bit over 1000 years from now as any other animal life is. The way this game is structured seems very believable within the framework of a far off in the future Earth.
