Most immersive game ever?

in no particular order; systemshock2, deusex, nwn, kotor, guildwars
prophesies, morrowind, dukenukem3d, darkforces and jedi knight sequels,
elite forces, syndicate, american mcgee's alice, severance blade of
darkness, hl1+2+ep1, mazpayne1+2, vampire the masqerade.

Ultima Underworld I. For several days straight I was 'LIVING' in the
Abyss and when I had to sleep, well, I was still there...!

Half-Life series, esp. HL2...this definitely tops the list -- Valve
nailed the post-invasion atmosphere by setting the events in Eastern
Europe and mixing up the locales (the original Black Mesa was a fun
romp, too)

AvP2...I can still hear that muffled Marine machine gun blasting away
Alien parts

SS2...alien collective + limited pick-ups + demented antagonist =
survival horror bliss!

Thief series...still enjoy Garrett's commentary

Doom 3: RoE...I know, I know, but I love the Grabber and the
double-barrel shotgun

Oblivion...create your own adventure and deftly place arrows in your enemies

Even bits of Far Cry and Halo...when they turned down the cheesiness

Dungeon Master on the Amiga.

#1 : Unreal. Never did a game drag me in so much. Music, graphics,
enemies, landscapes etc etc - I've never experienced that since. Who
can ever forget the approach to the Nali tower? The underground river
ride, the first meeting with the Skaarj. I could go on. I started to
love those Nali guys! I was there. Excellent.

#2 : System Shock 2. Except for the plastic guns ..... thanks Werner ...

Most immersive--Diablo 2/LoD, undoubtedly, followed closely by Falcon 3.0,
since genre's irrelevant. They're the only games I've ever played that
stayed on my drive for years. Privateer could perhaps have been a player
here, too, had there simply been more to it. I doubt I've ever been so
totally immersed in a game as that one, but it was only for days.

SS2 and the first Thief game.

All of them are opinions and nearly none are related to the graphics alone... more are related to the atmosphere and interaction...
