Unfortunately, that's what a lot of people in this thread are doing rather than thinking about it objectively.
Though I didn't mention it in my first post, I also agree about Soul Calibur. Of all the many fighting games out there, they pick one of the few that set themselves apart by being weapon based and having a ton of customization options? Bah. The series simply needs to improve after the last game, not die.
Related to that, I also think that a lot of series shouldn't be judged by one "off" entry. Even if the series is changing gears, like Gears of War (pun intended), it should be given a chance to establish that new direction.
