Minecraft is a trans-platform game. A $2 billion decision was not made by amateurs.
Minecraft sells stupidly well on any platform it is available on.

With that amount of cash they could have secured so many exclusives this gen and new IPs, that the Xbox One could have won at least a couple of markets around the globe, but no...Minecraft.

First off, buying new ips is harder than you think. The reason why it was easy for Microsoft to obtain Minecraft is because it was privatley own. They won't get hit as hard with anti competition laws. Second off, Minecraft can be very huge for Microsoft. Yes, with 2 billion dollars they could've made more new ips, but will it be as successful as Minecraft? Highly doubt it. From a financial stand point it makes sense.
