I wouldn't go that far. I would say it was the perfect storm for Psyonix.

There aren't that many standout games in July, so people get a bit desperate to find new games to play in dead months. A game that most people never heard of comes out and surprises. I was rather annoyed that the game was given so little coverage and/or reviews from games media the week the game was released. They just prioritized other games like GoW3: Remastered, Rory McIlroy PGA 2015, and Godzilla for whatever bloody reason. We got some a week or 2 weeks later (I'm looking at you Polygon, for publishing your review of Rocket League 2 weeks after release). Oh, and popular gaming channels were late on the bandwagon (although there were some that published videos right away like Northernlion, Gassymexican, Ohmwrecker, etc)

I'm not going as far as saying I'm 'definite' but like I said 'I wouldn't be surprised'.
