How about this for a compromise - Square retains turn based combat, with some kind of *ahem* "modern twist," whatever that may be, and then they make an wholly separate ARPG. Call it something like, I dunno, Kingdom Hearts 3, or FF15, or Dragon Quest Heroes, or Nier 2, or Star Ocean, or...
