No, it isn't. Remakes are for fans of the original. That's the primary audience, or at least should be. For anyone else it's no different from just making a brand new game, so why don't they do that for those people instead.

Nope!, especially within game industry. Remakes are used to intoduce NEW gamers/audiences to world classics, not to suck your dick ka pi

Nostalgia is the main selling point of remakes though. That is the whole purpose of them, to recapture the audience that originally loved them, of course they want to get new people in to it as well but those original fans are the main audience. Anybody else isn't going to give a toss about a remake since they won't care about the original, to them it is no different from a brand new game so again... if the intent is to get those people why not just ya know make a brand new game for them. Like FFXV, that's for those people, as will XVI and so on and so forth, bringing back the classics should be for people that liked the classics.

From a marketing psychology standpoint, it's actually about inclusiveness.  Michael Jackson's classic hits were around for decades, did the numerous best of compilations and the like sell absurd amounts before he died?  No.  People want to be part of the phenomenon.    If they wanted nostalgia they could've bought The Essential Michael Jackson set in 2005.
