Personal opinion will put one above the other, the truth is they will both push video game technology and video game quality forward; both through innovation." Upping the pixel count is not innovation. It happens every single generation and is expected and required, and has never not happened. It's not innovative. It's a direct result of technological advancements. Every system will be faster, stronger, smarter, and prettier than the last. That doesn't make them different. Besides, the strongest one never wins. Ever. |
I'd argue that most of the reviewers are actually giving more credit to games with new ideas than ever before. Every review I've ever seen counted Graphics, Sound, Playability etc into the score, yet Wii games get good reviews regardless of the 480p graphics. Unfortunately, the reviewers have given other recent games such high scores, it was nearly impossible to give GTA4 the score it deserved without giving it 100% or very close.
Upping the pixel count alone may not be innovation, but being able to create more immersive, realistic environments and still maintain frame rates and playability on hardware that's designed to be built for a price certainly is. Not every console this generation has upped the pixel count as expected.
