You're certainly not the only one who thinks outside the Japanese box. I don't like anime. I don't like the thin lines and deformed faces that go with the animation style. I don't like the frequent portrayal of young girls as sex objects in anime (both overtly and covertly). I don't like the Japan-worship culture that seems to go hand-in-hand with being a fan of it. I don't like fans of it who think sitting down and watching something like a mindless glassy-eyed drone for 7-8 hours is an accomplishment. "Wow. That must have taken a lot of thought. What did you do? Think about watching anime, turn the TV on and then switch the ol' brain off for 8 hours?" Not for me.

I've seen some anime cartoons. I gave it a chance on two separate occasions. Both times I found myself unimpressed with the content and technical aspects (lack of animation) in the features I watched.

For overbearing Japanophile roommates, I would suggest that you "adopt" another culture of your choosing. Maybe if you plastered your room in dolls and pictures that you were equally disconnected culture-wise from, it might shake them up a little and highlight their ridiculousness. Thinking about it, that would be expensive and almost certainly wouldn't work. Just find some louder, more obnoxious music to play over the top of theirs. Done.
