You know there has been a study about what people perceive immigration numbers to be. It was found most people in Europe overestimate migrant numbers anywhere from 9-29%. |
Being a borderline country between Libya and the rest of Europe, means that we receive a lot of migrants. We have have over 17,000 migrants leaving in Malta ( That's a lot for a country with a population of 400,000 ).
The reason we don't have a ton more migrants in our country is because most never wanted to come in our country ( Preferring Italy or Northern countries ) and prefer going back to their starting point than staying here.
Some even refuse help from Malta while they're stranded at sea ( Not that's a huge lol ): http://www.timesofmalta.com/mobile/view/20150504/local/migrants-refusing-help-from-maltese-patrol-boats.566735
