Players from foreign leagues can be fairly hit or miss, just look at Falcao as an example of someone who was brilliant in Portugal and Spain but couldn't cut it in his first season in the EPL, maybe he will be better in his 2nd season with Chelsea though. But why take a risk on a player who may take some time to adapt when you can get someone who has already proven he can do it. Players that are actually stars in the EPL very rarely leave until they've already passed their prime so that's a moot point. Except Benteke isn't just some young player, he is proven to have skills. He's a damn good player, and he's young. Oh and nothing, absolutely nothing, is a certainty when it comes to football. Not Benteke, not Martinez, hell even someone like Messi or Ronaldo could play much worse if they moved. Everything is a risk, some risks are just smaller than others and Beneteke is one of the smallest risks they could have taken. |
Dude, Falcao was flopping in Monaco big time before going to MU. He was supposed to move to Madrid but he was a shadow of himself.
Michael Owen 24, S. MacManaman 27, D. Beckham 28and all of them were stars at their club. As soon as they stepped into La liga, they played second fiddle to other players in their position.
What you could blame for bad adaptation of foreign players in England is bad coaching. EPL has some of the worst coaches on the big leagues /none.
