From the poll options I suppose I would have to say food. Friend of the family owned and ran the first Japanese restaurant in the state. My mother's first job was as a waitress there and though I only saw the place in its decline I spent a lot of time playing in the tea houses, goofing around in the kitchen with the old man and trying to tend bar with his old lady while learning dirty Japanese words from the regulars.

First started learning Japanese (and poker incidentally) with their sushi chef from their sushi chef since he lived near us and didn't mind having me around, but it pissed the old folks off because he's originally from Osaka so I wound up taking on his kansai-ben and never used keigo. Still fall into it from time to time if I get into a pitched conversation.
