That is essentially the Itagaki defense. I'm amazed at people trying to voice such a contrary opinion to people that have actually tried the game. Nobody thinks the game controls well. Nobody thinks the game looks good. Nobody thinks the game runs well in general. Yet now people are trying to, I don't even know. The game looks bad. I don't care who made it, or the level of experience amongst the entire development team. This game has been in development for so long even a first time developer should have been able to turn out something at least halfway decent.
This is not a game you will need to play to acknowledge just how bad it is. I don't rely entirely on previews and reviews myself, but if a game is getting absolutely thrashed all around for being an incredibly poorly made game, I'm going to listen. If it was one or two people, that would be one thing, but I have not read one preview so far where anybody has legitimately praised Devil's Third for anything that's actually important to the overall experience. Playing oblivious and saying "you just need to play the game" speaks to a desired ignorance more than an open mind.
