Stat boosting is you earn gold in the game. You can spend this buying extra powerups etc. This just helps with the higher difficulties. It's not increasing stats to boost strength etc.

If the stat boosting singular to the older gauntlets where you use gold to up your health and stuff ? I just remembered that

Yeah though it's not health you buy as such. You buy different spells/equipment that improve your abilities.
