Well Ninjabreadman, you have a point... but since when are legal gun owners (the ones who go through the training and the get the permit) the ones we should be targeting with these gun laws?

I mean criminals rarely if ever have proper permits for their guns, so who can defend themselves when there is a gun pulled on them? Only those who likewise have guns, Police or citizens.

What if the government becomes oppressive and we need to overthrow our government? Jefferson said it is our duty to throw off the shackles of such oppression and replace it. We cannot do that if we don't have weapons.

Would you rather have some people who legally obtained guns, thus making it easier for mad nutters to obtain fire arms since there are more in the wild, or no guns and less of these crack pots? If you can't rely on your police force or have the opinion that your goverment could go a bit crazy, even though you would have voted them in (go Bush!).

Organised crime won't be going away anytime soon, however, people who have it on their mind to commit crimes like the Virginia Tech massacre can be stopped by this.

Mad nutters (as you call them) will not pass for the permit. I would rather protect myself than rely on some outside force. I don't own a gun, but I will probably go buy one within a year or two. Look up the crime stats for the people who legally own guns (citizens with permits). I think that they commit less crime that off-duty police officers. Gun laws (banning guns) simply punish the people who follow the law. Criminals will still have access to guns via the black market just like drugs are. /sigh I wish this weren't the case, but it is. We need to protect ourselves before the police can get there.
