Well, actually pretty much every popular games have been bought at one point. Even in case of a first party studio that create a new IP, ideas are sold to a publisher which accept or not to fund the game. the difference is that a first party studio could only sold their ideas to their owner which will also automaticaly become the owner of the IP.
In fact, in the video game industry, you have so little to give credit to if not money.
