To put it simply : The simplier fighting games core mechanics are, the better the game appeal to most of the players. That is why games like SF2X and Third strike are considered the best and SFA3 are hated among fan as far as mecanics only are concerned.

Sorry to go off topic on this, since I've been on an Alpha 3 binge lately, but why does every rag on Alpha 3?  Third Strike is far more complex (Not saying it's not a better game).  I also really also wanna know why people keep saying Alpha 2 is a better game.  I keep hearing that with no justification (Seriously see people on forums get called on it and see no good response).  Every Alpha 2 match I've seen is filled with turtling and overall slow pace.  While Alpha 3, not even with the broken v-ism combos, is at a much faster pace and offers overall more variety.

Alpha 3 imo is a very good game if you get rid of V ism stupid combo that can last 30 seconds long. This is the only problem I have with the game, but what a problem. It ruins the feels and the rythme of the game really badly, wich is a really terrible thing in a fighting game. Hence why I could not stand Blazblue in the first place or MVC2 : being destroyed in one touch or sustain a combo for 20 seconds is not fun nor competitive. It is just plain stupid. Plus it keeps away noobs from the game and reduce the chance of having a big community. And we all know that its the community that make a fighting game, hence why SF4 is everywhere while being the worst main SF. As a Third strike player myself for 10 years now, I have seen what hard to learn mecanics and rigidity in fighting game can do to a game longevity. Third strike is instinctive, but it is to hard to master past middle-level, too hard actually and it did hurt the game since there is barely none third player anymore. Alpha 3 may be simplier to learn to middle-level, but there is too much bullshit for an average player to care to get past middle-level.

A second problem I have, is that there is too much characters in alpha 3, like in USF4. Way too much characters. For people who do not actually PLAY the game it may seems to be a good thing, but seriousely it is a pain in the ass to learn all the match up. 12 to 15 characters in a fighting game is the magik number. In Alpha 3, there is something like 30 characters and seriousely this is way too much. You will have to learn every reversal solution, what is safe/not safe and frame trap for every characters. It is impossible to remember them all. So even if you know how to play and played the game for a long time, you can still be randomed by a character that you had not the chance to play a lot against.

Aside of that, Alpha 3 is one of the best fighting game to me. But V-ism hurt it badly, since most of the better character are v-ism and they destroy everyone else. Only character that is good and does not use V-ism is A-ism Gen, and maybe A-ism Guy. Two characters out of 30...

There is probably a lot of people that appreciate alpha 2, but alpha 2 is unpolished and pretty stupid to play too. But it is a straight forward game, so for people who started fighting game with SF 2 Turbo it reminds them of it. From all the "zero", alpha 2 golden is what look a like a street fighter the most.
