You are clearly dealing with a case of paranoid schizophrenia.  They operate on fear but the key to beating them is simply show no fear. That is different from being aggressive.  It means max assertiveness. 

ok. i appreciate that insight. i think i was acting aggressive, but what i was trying to be was stern. i dont think i pulled it off very well.

Yeah I have had first hand experience dealing with these type of folks.  I can say for sure that assertiveness is the best way to handle them.  Its definitely an acquired skill so don't beat yourself up over it either. I think you handled yourself very well.
