Digitimes have sources with manufacturers so based on that they talking about numbers of device that will be produced in future, also in article they talked about production numbers for NX so we can assume they also talked about production of Wii U too.
Abou that that they dont manufactured any wii u consoles for a long time: WiiU target of 3.6m units will need more manufactured than in current inventory, no loss from hardware any more, more games at E3

Apologies if my writing isn't perfect I write very fast and don't proof read the messages sometimes.
That comment does imply that they are still selling existing inventory and that 3.6m is too high for existing inventory which sort of indicates some part of the 3.6m figure is in excess of warehouse stock. Also though has Nintendo continuously under-performed compared to its expectations. We have only just reached 10 million shipped and as you can see from my signature I was expecting that milestone to be reached a long time ago.
I wonder if realistically the wii u will ever reach production again. I've a feeling Nintendo are more interested in moving on to their next console. Foxconn do their best pricing on large orders so any small batches of wii u stock won't be a cost effective. At one point Nintendo were predicting I think 9 million consoles being sold from march 2013 to 2014 but only 3 million were sold. I wonder if the 9 million was actually manufactured because added to the launch numbers that would be about the right number to get to 12/13 million sold which seems to be about what the wii u is expected to sell before the NX arrives in 2016. My gut instinct tells me wii u production is already stopped and its just a matter of clearing the inventory over the next 12 months. Sega had the same situation with the dreamcast where they'd manufactured what their sales predictions calculated but were stuck with a lot of warehouse stock when those predictions were much too high.
