I'm not sure it's so much that the game was popular, more that it's just an interesting idea for a title, and NIS must have come across the ownership for it somehow.
I hope it comes west. That + Yoru no Nai Kuni are probably my most anticipated Japanese-only-so-far games anounced right now.
(Oh, and Tokyo Xanadu, forgot about that one. AND UKIYO NO ROUSHI :( )
