When Do A Game's 'Mundane' Activites Suck You In?

I used to hang out more in the Underground mining for treasure than the overworld in pokemon Diamond/Pearl.
I think I had more evolutionary stones than pokemon by the end of it. Needless to say minecraft enticed me greatly.
