Reason for this is quite simple but yet a lot of people seem to not think about it. PS3 launched with Chips built on a 90nm process and a board and cooling built to accommodate it. Shrinking from 90 to 60 to 40...etc gave it a lot of room to get smaller hence the two PS3 slims. With ps4 we started with a 28nm chip, not a lot of shrinking you can do from there |
no way will PS4 SLIM release in 2017 or 2018
there are already rumors of PS4 SLIM and images and SONY needs the cost-cutting,its a waste debuting SLIM console after 5years as there will be no boost and will be waste
PS4 will still have SUPER SLIM like PS3 and PS2 as SONY needs it to get the final price under $199 and boost at the end of console's lifetime like PS2 and PS3
the two PS3 SLIM's were not only because die shrink but also because SONY wanted to cut-cost as did MICROSOFT with 360 SUPER SLIM to bring it to $149
from 28nm,you can easily co down to 7nm which PS4 will by the end of its lifetime
