I just bought a 4K samsung 50" with upscaling for $937.  By 2019 they won't even sell 1080p TVs anymore.

As a little reminder, the PS3 and 360 launched 720p gaming when most people still using 480p TVs.

They're still selling HD Ready TV's. I'm sure they'll be selling Full HD TV's for quite a while longer. 1440P is their best option. People will with 1080P screens will get a massive performance and graphical ( due to increased Textures and so on ) increase over the PS4 and those with a 4K Tv will also enjoy a good bump in resolution from 1080P to 1440P. It's the best chocie for Sony when dealing with Performance, Graphics and Price.

If you were talking about launching the PS5 on Today's hardware - Sure. However, we are not talking about launching in 2015,2016,2017 or probably even 2018.

If they expect the PS5 to last into the mid to late 2020's it will be 4K ready - with enough power to alternatively run advanced morpheus games.
