I feel your pain on the PS4 controller battery issue (I bought a couple of 6 ft cables that I use for PS4 and Xbox One) but do you really believe that buying batteries for the Xbox controller out buying a charge and play kit is a better solution? I prefer the One by far and I use rechargeable AA batteries when I want to go wireless but it really is the worst solution. Even Nintendo ditched AAs this gen.

Throw money at the problem!

You have to consider that just about every household that can afford to even buy an Xbox One has AA batteries in it.  I haven't heard anyone say "the Xbox One controller requires AA batteries?! I DON'T EVEN HAVE ANY!!!", and the fact remains that it gets 20 hours out of a set, giving a person plenty of time to figure out a better solution if they so desire.  I, much like you, have rechargeables around, so technically, the Xbox One was a zero cost situation for me out of the box without any inconvenience associated with it.

As for the Wii U Gamepad, ALSO really bad battery life... Except they kindly included an incredibly long AC adapter to charge it with, another zero cost situation right out of the box.

And yea, I'll be throwing money at the problem: as stated earlier, once the warranty on the controller runs out, I'll probably open it up and put a higher capacity battery in it!
