 I disagree. 

 Sonic, Shining Force,  Alex Kid... they had plenty of franchises.  They wanted to do the same thing Nintendo (and really all) publishers do, they just didn't have enough franchises to pull it off.  Hence the need to take risks to develop said franchises.

 


I guess an animal backed into a corner really does do what is necessary.  They didn't have the franchises so they made new, oftentimes good ones.  And please don't disagree with me, it might get ugly next time.
