but Half-Life should still make the short list because outside of CoD and Battefield, the most popular FPS games are Half-Life, Counter-Strike and Halo.
I would vote for Half-Life simply because they are unmatched as far as single player shooters go. Everything from perfect difficulty curves to varied and intelligent level design to their heavily refined, bug free experiences. Only a handful of FPS RPGs like System Shock and Deus Ex even come close. As far as multiplayer I would have to vote for Counter-Strike, the other dubious omission from your list :/

Sorry I didn't put it on the poll. But like I said, I want people to comment on their opinion, and also I just listed FPS games off the top of my head without thinking.
