My problem with JRPGs is that almost all of them are turn-based.
I find that boring and tedious, tried to play a few and always had to fight falling asleep of boredom.
It's not the only problem I have with them, but is the main one.

I also think that they all look the same, play the same and have the same story.

I gave them several chances, there is no chance I'll ever play one again.

- Genei Ibun Roku #FE
- Persona 5
- Yo-kai Watch
- Monster Hunter Stories (depending on what kind of game it turns out to be and if it comes to the West)
- Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
- Fire Emblem: Fates

These are the ones on my radar. Besides the first two, none of them look the same, play the same or have the same story.

Yo-kai Watch and Monster Hunter (Stories) are also not turn-based. Mario & Luigi is turn based, but because you need to time your button presses correctly the battles are very engaging. And characters can counter-attack during an enemy phase in Fire Emblem (and vice versa), so it's not really tedious or boring.

All those except Persona are on Nintendo consoles, so they don't exist for me. And Persona is turn based, I tried playing P4G on Vita, but after I fell asleep few times in the first dungeon while fighting some amorphous blobs a dozen times, I decided to quit (especially since it took about an hour of pressing X to get through the comic book to get to actual gameplay).

The reason why I really wanted to give JRPG a shot was South Park. The game was well made, interesting, moved at a decent pace, and it was turn based. And I didn't mind, as it was explained well and did not require hours of trial and error.

Only then, when I tried to play other turn based games is that I realized rlthat they were all the same (main character, party of 3, fiddle with skills, take turns...) and it certainly didn't help that they were anime kids and girls with oversized mammaries for no reason at all.

Then I tried Child of Light, which is a completely diferent aesthetic, but I simply couldn't get past the combat.

In retrospect, it seems the only reason I liked South Park.game was because I am a huge fan. Had it been any other story and characters with the same gameplay, I probably would have given up as well.

I tried some other Japanese RPG action games like Toukiden, Soul Sacrifice etc. but gavebup quickly, as all they are a procession of monsters you need to kill over and over again.

I do realize the problem is my taste most of all, but I think I gave it a decent effort, and now I can avoid those games for good.
